FlexIDS represents AWI's 3rd Generation Integrated Display System:

FlexIDS has its roots in the ACE-IDS program, our first generation IDS. In 1999
the FAA selected AWI as the prime contractor for ACE-IDS. All of the hardware
for ACE-IDS was specified, integrated, and installed by AWI. The display
software for ACE-IDS was subcontracted. AWI developed 46,679 lines of software
for ACE-IDS that implements monitoring, administration, scripting, and
fail-over. The ACE-IDS network was also designed and installed by AWI personnel.
AWI, as the prime contractor, was also responsible for ACE-IDS program
management and complex logistics functions.
AWI software runs on all of the ACE-IDS servers 24/7. ACE-IDS is a good example
of AWI integrating COTS hardware and software components with AWI developed
software to provide a fully functioning system to the Government. Of particular
note, ACE-IDS was 97% on time and under budget. |

In 2003, AWI built our second generation IDS in anticipation of the FAA Data
Display System (FAADDS) program. AWI worked with the FAA to handle numerous
additional requirements for FAADDS. The network design was also brought up to
then current standards. The largest change for this IDS iteration was a new,
grounds-up implementation of the display software, allowing us to innovate
faster and provide a better quality system than was previously available.
The core of that then new software, internally known as StormFrontTM*, was also
used to support some of AWIs other programs, most notably AWOS-3000 and
MetObserver – both of which are now out in the field with AWI customers working
24/7. |

FlexIDS is the pinnacle culmination of our IDS efforts. AWI has the experience
and the expertise to build and deliver the next generation IDS, with no second
tier contractors.
Using our experience from creating ACE-IDS and other systems that perform
similar functions for the FAA, AWI was able to design and build a system that
out performs any other IDS. Bred from extensive experience with the FAA, our
skilled management and engineering teams, and our strong financial position,
FlexIDS is the Integrated Information Display System that will serve the FAA’s
needs for NextGen and beyond.
