Canada Receives State of the Art Equipment

AWI has been the preferred development partner to the FAA for several years, and now we are helping Canada’s Department of National Defense (DND) to maximize operational safety with state of the art weather monitoring systems.

In 2012, AWI was awarded a contract to provide Canada's Department of National Defense with an Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) capable of withstanding some of nature's harshest environments.  By 2017, AWI will have provided a total of 52 systems constituting complete replacement of the Canadian Forces AWOS network.

AWI's AWOS solution provides timely, accurate, mission-critical weather information to the REDDS, NWS, and CFWOS interfaces as well as local user displays.  The rugged and reliable sensors detect and quantify local weather conditions while high-availability architecture disseminates and logs the data.  Sophisticated self-diagnostic modules continuously monitor system health, report errors, and identify the error source for fast and easy troubleshooting.

The multifaceted approach taken by AWI’s Program Managers will result in completion of all 52 system and training courses by 2017, as well as certification of AWI’s AWOS by Environment Canada & Transport Canada.
