Santiago Airport, Chile, Adds Runway and New Meteorological System from All Weather, Inc.

Sacramento, CA (February 27, 2006)2006_Santiago ChileAll Weather, Inc., a leading manufacturer of high accuracy, high dependability weather information systems and meteorological sensors, today announced that the Airport Authority at the main airport of Santiago, Chile, has expanded services with a new runway and state-of-the-art meteorological system, the Series 900 AWOS from All Weather, Inc. The new runway is designed to handle recent significant increases in traffic and provides sufficient capacity to allow the main runway to be taken out of service and refurbished.

The AWI Series 900 AWOS features high reliability Wind Observer II sensors for wind measurement at both ends of the runway. Dual, forward-scatter Runway Visual Range (RVR) systems are located at the primary end and center field positions and ensure measurements even during fog, snow, rain, haze, smoke, dust, and sand. Also at the primary end of the runway are high accuracy Laser Ceilometers, which simultaneously detect and measure cloud height to 25,000 feet. Additional sensors measure barometric pressure, temperature, humidity, and rainfall.

Weather data from the Series 900 AWOS field stations is transmitted via UHF Radio data link to the Central Data Processor, (CDP), located at the Airport Meteorological Office. At the office, the dual, hot-swap computer system is mounted in a 19” rack together with the various communication devices required. The data is then made available on the Airport Local Area Network (LAN) via the AWI AWOS Net Server and StormFront software. The system also includes a dedicated remote display in the ATC Tower.

Installation of the AWOS system for Santiago Airport was under the direction of Besalco Construcciones S.A., Chile, a major construction firm serving the South America region.
